Reek Sunday 2017

Reek Sunday takes place on the last Sunday in July each year.  In 2017 Reek Sunday takes place on Sunday July 30th  with the local pilgrimage, Garland Friday taking place on Friday July 28th

PLEASE NOTE CHANGES TO THIS YEARS PILGRIMAGE

The schedule for Reek Weekend this year is as follows:

Friday July 28th

10:00am                     Mass on the Summit of Croagh Patrick.

7:30pm                       Mass in Croagh Patrick Car Park at Murrisk Community Café.

Saturday July 29th

9:00am                       Mass at the base of Croagh Patrick, just above the statue.  (This Mass will take place in Lecanvey church if it is raining)

6:30pm                       Mass for Eve of Pilgrimage – Saint Mary’s Church, South Mall, Westport;

Celebrants: Most Reverend Michael Neary, Archbishop of Tuam.

 

Sunday July 30th

PLEASE NOTE THAT MASS IS NOW CELEBRATED ON AN HOURLY BASIS

7:30am – 2:00pm        Confessions of the Summit of Croagh Patrick.

8:00am                       First hourly Mass on the Summit

8:30am                      Tóchar Phádraig commences at Ballintubber Abbey

10:00am                    Aifreann as Gaeilge – le Easpag Chill dá Lua Fiontán Ó Monacháin 

11:00am                     Mass celebrated by the Archbishop of Tuam

2:00pm                       Last half-hourly Mass on the Summit

    There will be a total of 7 Masses celebrated on the Summit on Reek Sunday.

 

MASSES IN LOCAL CHURCHES

8:30am                   Pilgrims Mass in Lecanvey church

10:00am                 Mass in Westport church

11:30am                 Mass in Lecanvey church

12:00pm                 Mass in Westport church

Please note the following:

  • All priests wishing to celebrate the Sacraments must produce a valid Celebret.
  • All pilgrims should heed the instructions of the Mountain Rescue Teams, Order of Malta and An Gárda Síochána at all times.
  • Pilgrims should follow the instructions and guidelines issued by Mayo Mountain Rescue http://www.mayomountainrescue.ie/index.php/advice/safety-and-equipment
  • The pilgrimage stations are laid out at the base of the mountain.  There are two Prayer cards available for the Reek Pilgrimage, both of which are down-loadable here: 1) Stations of the Reek  2) Patricks Path
  • The Pilgrims Prayer Card is available in Teach Na Míosa and the Murrisk Community Café as well as in the ‘Patricks Path' section of this website.
