Speech and Drama Classes

There are Speech and Drama classes provided weekly during the school term, outside of school hours mainly for the children attending Primary and Secondary schools in Westport and the surrounding area.

Speech and Drama involves:

  • Drama and mime which encourages creativity.
  • Speech work which helps our communication skills and gives us an appreciation of poetry and literature.
  • Encourages team spirit and co-operation and helps our social skills.

Some of the actors drawn from one of the groups performing in Captain Blackboot's Island during the annual feis.

The first term will be busy preparing for our annual feis. This is a great occasion for all to perform on stage for parents and friends. There is a drama section and a poetry section.  The speech and drama exams will be held during the second term .the Examining Board is the Royal Irish Academy of Music. We use their syllabus and they send an examiner usually in March each year. As each student is examined individually, this is of great benefit in preparation for interviews in the future.
