"Croagh Patrick, County Mayo, 1935
A view of the landscape near the slopes of Croagh Patrick, County Mayo, in about 1935. This 764-metre-high mountain is traditionally climbed by pilgrims on the last Sunday in July. The traditional thatched cottage in the foreground is noted in the caption as being the birthplace in Louisburgh of John McEvilly, the Archbishop of Tuam from 1881 to 1902. Louisburgh is a small town near Westport on the southwest corner of Clew Bay in County Mayo. The print forms part of a bound volume containing a collection of ‘General Landscape Views’ intended for publication in ‘The Capuchin Annual’. (Ref.: CA/CP/1/1/1/4/1).
We wonder if this homestead still stands there today.
We hope so.
