This afternoon (05 October 2024), despite the overcast skies and occasional drizzle, a heartfelt ecumenical ceremony took place at Murrisk Car Park in honor of beloved animal companions. Led by Fr. John Kenny and Reverend Suzanne Cousins, the Blessing of Animals ceremony saw local residents gather in prayer and unity to celebrate the bond between humans and animals. Despite the not-so-ideal weather, spirits remained high as attendees brought their pets, ranging from dogs and horses to smaller creatures, for a special blessing. The event highlighted the joy and gratitude people have for the animals that bring love and companionship into their lives. During the ceremony, celebrants gave a poignant reflection on the love for animals expressed by Saint Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals and the environment.
